Vintage: 2022
Grape: Chardonnay
Region: Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy
Appellation: Udine
Soil: Sandy
Winemaking: Whole grapes are pressed and the fermentation is controlled in tanks
Aging: 6-8 months in bottle
Production: 600 cases
Alc/Vol: 12.5%
Farming: Organic
This is an un-oaked Chardonnay from Northeast Italy where the summers are warm and the winters are cold. I didn’t anticipate preferring this wine in a lineup of many noteworthy Chardonnays at a tasting earlier this year, but it stood out. The quality is fantastic at $19. It has a beautiful balance of fruit and acid, enough to satisfy folks looking for more of a full body white without going all the way into overblown ripeness and oak territory.
