Are you a sucker for the classics? Well, so are we. These wines are not cheap, but they deliver.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Southern Rhône Valley, France is well known for its red wines made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, but this white is a show stopper. Once we opened it, we wanted to hoard a case for ourselves. It comes from a ten hectare estate that is farmed organically. The Cabernet Sauvignon from Carneros is for old school Bordeaux lovers; it is not your typical Napa Valley Cab. Carneros is a bit cooler than Napa and thus lighter in style, resembling the old world. This female winemaker uses low-intervention farming and native yeasts, but this is also not a “funky” wine; it’s fantastic. The last stop is Tuscany, for this limited production Brunello from a family winery. This is everything Sangiovese wants to be when it grows up - a wine fit for a special occasion.
